Joshua Tree Fourth of July
Los Angeles can shine as a creative maven or a chaotic mess. My best friend, Hunter, and I grappled with it daily when I lived there. We pined for an escape one Fourth of July.
And so, on a whim, we packed up and took a road trip to Joshua Tree. We were both youngish, imaginative, and carefree. There were many plot points on our journey that resonated this fact.
But then a soulful moment visited us. We ventured to the community’s Fourth of July celebration. It twinkled like a slice of wholesome Americana. The mayor said a few words. The people were friendly. And the atmosphere glowed with serenity.
Hunter and I sat on a hill, slightly apart from it all. We didn’t speak. Instead, we shared a silent moment and observed life from afar.
Fireworks painted the skyline like artistic dreams. We both held so many of our own.
And in that moment, presence renewed hope.
So did our friendship.
Simply beautiful!
Thank you. I am always happy to know a post resonates with someone. ❤️
Angie,
I captured the moment of my Grandma cracking open the door of her apartment and smiling
that loving welcoming smile as I walked down the hall to enter. Another moment
is, when I left that eighth floor apartment and headed to my car, she was always standing
at the window waving. My son would repeat Grandma’s words. I love you more than life
itself. Grandma once said, I want to keep on living as I can’t wait to see what happens the next day. When her second child died, she grieved to herself, so as not to take others down,
and then said, I better get back to those who are living. Her outlook on life took her to age ninety-three. When she knew her time would soon be over, she said to me “Marilyn, I don’t want you to go
to pieces when I die.” She told me it would not make her happy to see me like that. I did not
as Grandma is still with me. The most unselfish human being I have ever met.
I loved reading these beautiful moments seen through your soul. They are touching and profound. She has certainly lived through you. ❤️
